We are deeply saddened by the passing of Cheryl Dumont, a beloved and influential community leader in St. Albert, on April 12, 2025

Cheryl, who had once dreamed of becoming a teacher, dedicated her life to championing literacy and education. Her passion for lifelong learning and her unwavering commitment to community service left a lasting impact on countless lives.

From 2010 to 2021, Cheryl served as a school trustee with St. Albert Public Schools, where she tirelessly advocated for students and families. She was also a committed board member with the St. Albert Housing Society from 2014 to 2023, working to support affordable housing initiatives. Her most enduring legacy, however, may be with St. Albert Further Education, where she served as both a board member and later as Executive Director from 2011 to 2023. Even after her retirement, Cheryl continued to volunteer with the organization, reflecting her lifelong dedication to helping others learn and grow.

Cheryl’s remarkable service was recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and, most recently, the King Charles III Coronation Medal in March 2025.

To honour Cheryl’s legacy and her steadfast commitment to literacy, donations can be made in her memory to the Dumont Family Literacy Fund through our Foundation. In lieu of flowers, your support will help continue the work that meant so much to her.
